These Terms & Conditions ("Terms") govern your use of the Léon Chocolat website and the purchase of our chocolates, pastries, and related products and experiences. By placing an order or otherwise using our website, you agree to these Terms. Please read them carefully.
1. Who We Are
Léon Chocolat is an artisan chocolate atelier based in Basel, Switzerland. In these Terms, "we", "us", and "our" refer to Léon Chocolat; "you" and "your" refer to the customer. You can reach us at any time using the details on our contact page.
2. Orders
All orders are an offer to purchase and are subject to acceptance and product availability. We confirm your order by email once payment is authorised. We reserve the right to decline or cancel an order — for example where an item is unavailable, where there is an error in the price or description, or where we suspect fraudulent activity. If we cancel a paid order, we will refund you in full.
Because our products are freshly made in small batches, availability can change quickly and certain items are produced only seasonally or to order.
3. Prices & Payment
Prices are shown in Swiss francs (CHF) and, where applicable, include Swiss value added tax (VAT). Delivery charges, where they apply, are shown separately at checkout before you confirm your order. We may change prices at any time, but changes will not affect orders we have already accepted.
Payment is taken at the time of ordering through our secure payment provider, unless a cash-on-delivery option is offered and selected. We do not store your full card details.
4. Delivery & Collection
We offer local delivery and in-atelier collection. Estimated delivery and collection times are given in good faith but are not guaranteed. Risk in the products passes to you on delivery or collection. Please provide accurate delivery details; we are not responsible for orders that fail because of an incorrect address or an unavailable recipient.
As our products are perishable, we ask that collection orders be picked up at the arranged time so we can guarantee freshness.
5. Tastings & Experiences
Bookings for tastings, workshops, and similar experiences are confirmed once payment is received. If you need to reschedule or cancel a booking, please contact us at least 48 hours in advance so we can offer the place to someone else. Places are limited and are offered on a first-come, first-served basis.
6. Cancellations & Refunds
Because our chocolates and pastries are freshly made and perishable, they are generally exempt from the statutory right of withdrawal and cannot be returned once prepared or dispatched. This does not affect your rights where a product is faulty, damaged in transit, or not as described.
If something is wrong with your order, please contact us within 24 hours of delivery or collection, ideally with a photograph, and we will put it right with a replacement or a refund.
7. Allergens & Food Information
Our products are made in a workshop that handles cocoa, milk, nuts, gluten, soya, eggs, and other allergens. We cannot guarantee that any product is entirely free from traces of these allergens. If you have a food allergy or intolerance, please contact us before ordering and check the product information carefully. It is your responsibility to make us aware of any allergy.
8. Intellectual Property
All content on this website — including recipes, text, photographs, graphics, logos, and the Léon Chocolat name — is our property or that of our licensors and is protected by intellectual property law. You may not reproduce, distribute, or use it for commercial purposes without our prior written permission.
9. Our Liability
We take great care over our products and our website, but to the extent permitted by law we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss. Nothing in these Terms limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for any liability that cannot be excluded under Swiss law.
10. Governing Law
These Terms are governed by the laws of Switzerland. The courts of Basel, Switzerland shall have jurisdiction over any dispute, subject to any mandatory consumer protection rules that apply where you live.
11. Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. The version published on this page at the time you place an order applies to that order. Please review this page whenever you shop with us.
12. Contact
If you have any questions about these Terms, please get in touch. We are always happy to help.
